After a little less than a year that the Pohlad family announced their intention to sell the Minnesota Twins organization; they announced last Wednesday they will still be the principal owners of the organization for the foreseeable future. They did announce there were going to be two investors to the ownership group. The flawed part of the announcement was not telling us who they were.
To say the fanbase was restless after this stunning revelation would be and an understatement. Social media exploded in the upper Midwest with Twins fans bashing the decision was like nothing I’ve ever seen. The public court of opinion towards the Pohlads has already become judge, jury and executioner and the family name has been hung in the town square for everybody to see.
There is only one way to help the public perception of this public relations mess. To make it as easy as possible for fans to have access to listening, watching and buying tickets to the games as possible. As I wrote last week, I’m a radio guy and love the fact the stations I work for pay a few for the rights and it is free to listen to the games.
In 2026 the best thing the Twins organization could do is let senior citizens and generations of Twins fans watch their favorite product at no cost to them. Players come and go, managers come and go, General Managers come and go, but the fanbase remains there forever. As long as you don’t squeeze them for every penny they have.
