VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO-News Dakota) — Valley City Public Schools is moving forward with plans for a new 3-12 school. Voters approved a $46 million referendum during a special election June 10.
The new school will be built next to existing Jefferson Elementary, and will also house the district office.
Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson says a steering committee is in the early stages of planning, but is working quickly.
“We’re looking at a design process of several months,” Johnson says. “There may actually even be some opportunities to be able to bid late this year. Looking to be able to put shovels in the ground once the snow melts and and the ground’s ready.”
Construction is expected last 18 to 24 months. The new school would open in the fall of 2028.
The school district will get appraisals for Washington Elementary and the district office and eventually sell those buildings.
