Lateef Mahaffy, Jr. (Kandiyohi Co. Jail)
WILLMAR, Minn. (KFGO) — A Benson, Minnesota man was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison Monday for selling drugs to a Willmar man. That man died later died from an overdose.
Lateef Mahaffey, 28, was convicted for 3rd Degree Murder and 5 other counts for selling drugs to the victim in September 2022. The victim was later found dead from fentanyl toxicity in his bathtub.
Mahaffey was also ordered to pay more than $14,000 in restitution for the funeral expenses for his victim.
On social media, family members of the victim expressed anger that Mahaffey refused to attend the sentencing on Monday and was not forced to hear their victims’ impact statements.
