(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks took on the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the final game of a 3 game set in Gary, Indiana today. Jake Dykhoff would be on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead, going up against Peyton Long of Gary SouthShore. This would end up being a pitcher’s duel, almost like last night’s contest.
Jake Dykhoff would throw 6 and 1/3 scoreless innings, while striking out 8, and only allowing 4 runs, as well as 1 walk. He would be replaced by Parker Harm in the bottom of the 7th, and with a runner in scoring position, a fielding error by Fargo-Moorhead would result in a 1-0 lead for Gary. The RailCats would be getting a lot of help from their defense, as well as their starting pitcher, Peyton Long. He went 7 scoreless innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 4. But Fargo-Moorhead would answer back in the top of the 8th, on an infield RBI single by Brendon Dadson off RailCats reliever, Cody Reed. The game would be tied up through the bottom of the 8th, and the entirety of the 9th. It would be 1-1 going into the 10th inning, and Fargo-Moorhead would not score in their top half of the 10th. But Gary SouthShore would in their half. Elvis Peralta would deliver off Redhawks reliever, Garrett Alexander, on a walk off RBI in the bottom of the 10th.
Dawson Lane got the win for Gary SouthShore, throwing 1 shutout inning, while striking out a batter. Garrett Alexander was the losing pitcher in today’s game, going 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 run that was unearned, 1 walk, while striking out 3.
After losing the series, Fargo-Moorhead will head back to Newman Outdoor Field for a 3 game weekend series starting tomorrow night against the Sioux Falls Canaries. This will be the first 3 games of a 7 game series for the Redhawks, as on Tuesday, July 17th, they will have a doubleheader against the Kansas City Monarchs. 2 more games against Kansas City at Newman Outdoor Field will follow after that doubleheader. The pregame show for tomorrow’s series opener against the Sioux Falls Canaries will be at 6:40 PM on AM 740 The FAN/107.3 FM.
