FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – A man was arrested for driving while under the influence after speeding through a construction zone and fleeing law enforcement.
Otter Tail County prosecutors say at around 1:50 a.m., Monday, a state trooper was on I-94 near Fergus Falls when the officer spotted a pickup going 90 miles-per- hour in a construction zone. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the pickup driver, later identified as 35-year-old Samuel Platt of Solway, attempted to flee. The trooper terminated the pursuit after Platt passed a semi by going into the oncoming lane.
Once out of the construction zone, the trooper caught up to the pickup and resumed the pursuit. The pickup began smoking and slowed to 40 mph, at which point the trooper executed a PIT maneuver and stopped the truck.
After initially ignoring commands, Platt got out of the vehicle was taken into custody. At one point, prosecutors say he resisted and attempted to pull away from the trooper and another officer when he was taken to the ground.
The trooper noted multiple signs of controlled substance use both during and after the pursuit. Platt’s license had been revoked.
Platt has been charged with fleeing law enforcement, 2nd and 3rd degree DWI, obstructing the legal process, driving with a revoked license, and other petty misdemeanors.
