Gregory Beyer, 64, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at his home in Prairie Rose, ND, under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Greg was born on August 21, 1960, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Alfred and Lucille (Reinke) Beyer. He grew up in Breckenridge, where he attended school and graduated in 1978. During high school, he worked part-time in construction before pursuing further studies at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, specializing in autobody repair.
In 1978, Greg met the love of his life, Mary Schmitt. They married on October 2, 1982, and spent 42 wonderful years together. In 1991, they welcomed their daughter, Marissa, who was the light of their lives.
Following college, Greg and Mary moved to Wyoming, where he worked for Western Equipment, repairing semi-truck bodies. Eventually, they returned to North Dakota, where Greg continued his autobody repair career at Wallworks, Lars Body Shop, and Altimate Auto Body. In 2004, he transitioned into a new profession, joining Hegenes Property Management as a carpenter. Over 21 dedicated years, he became a trusted expert, handling flooring, sheetrock repair, electrical work, plumbing, and general handyman services. Greg took great pride in his craftsmanship and truly loved his work.
Greg was known for his boundless energy and passion for DIY projects—whether tackling home renovations inspired by Mary or creating something new. A skilled cook, he was the chief chef of the household and even built a backyard smokehouse to craft smoked chickens, summer sausage, and beef sticks. He enjoyed golfing with friends and family, often participating in tournaments for the fun of it. His creativity extended to stained glass art, with a workshop dedicated to his craft. His vast knowledge of home improvement and hands-on projects will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his daughter, Marissa Beyer, and her fiancé, Jesse Hagen; his siblings, Julie (Ken) Mazac of River Falls, WI, Patty (Loren) Ellefson of Milnor, ND, Janet (Greg) McMullen of Fargo, ND, and Karen (Todd) Safgren of Eden Prairie, MN; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Lucille Beyer.
