Georgie Mechtel, 80, Fargo, ND passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Georgie Ann Eichelberger was born June 1, 1945 in Fargo to George and Evylin (Hemple) Eichelberger. She graduated from Fargo Central High School and continued her schooling at NDSU. Georgie met the love of her life while she was, as she used to say, “dragging Broadway” in Fargo. She married Marvin M. Mechtel on February 20, 1965 in Fargo. They made their home in the Page area where they farmed. They worked side by side and she was always the “somebody” when Marvin would say “somebody needs to go here or do this.” She also handled the business side of the farm operation. They raised three children, Matthew, Mindy and Melissa. She was active in the local Homemaker’s club and the Page School Mothers group. Georgie and Marvin enjoyed gardening and traveling as well.
Following the passing of her son and husband, Georgie courageously started a new chapter of her life. She enjoyed her lake home on Long Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN and spending time in Florida along with other family trips. She cherished her time with her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook – always making new recipes and buying cookbooks. Georgie became a bit of a “foodie” and loved trying new restaurants. She was an avid reader and loved animals especially her dog “Honey.”
She leaves behind two daughters, Mindy (Wylie) Wetzel of Woodbury, MN and Melissa (Cory) Rogne of Fargo; four grandchildren, Katherine and Margaret Wetzel and Max and Isla Rogne; brother, Joe (Shirley) of Fargo; sister, Lynne (Basant) Dhaliwal of Livermore, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Matthew; two brothers, Steve and Richard; and her beloved dog, Honey.
Funeral: Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 7 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Page Cemetery.
