Blue Angel in Fargo's sky (Madison Quinn, KFGO)
One of the biggest challenges in life is we seem to be wired to think the worst.
I remember listening to a psychologist talk about how few fears a baby has at birth and as they grow through life they begin to fear more and more. I think if we’re honest with ourselves we can probably understand that through our teenage years we pretty much lived a life as 10 ft tall and bulletproof and then as we slowly grow into more mature adulthood we see friends and family that suffer and die partly due to poor choices like drinking and driving or reckless behavior.
Then we start to become more familiar with things like cancer and heart attacks that begin the transition from celebrating births and attending weddings to funerals; mix in the situations where a friend or loved one is killed in a car accident or freak situation. In many cases nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Fear grows with us.
With a wife and kids who have struggled through their own health challenges I’m all too familiar with trips to the ER and funerals but I want to say that whether it’s work or life we can’t simply just lock ourselves in the basement and hope for the best.
In fact it’s the exact opposite we do need to live life with faith and a purpose of going out into the world and meeting the challenges head on. The bottom line for me is trying to maintain my purpose in life with faith in God’s plan. Fear comes from lack of faith.
I fail often. But not because I won’t try.
Here’s to you as you meet the challenges in life.
