FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — People on social media continue to debate the now-viral video of a man punching three Fargo Police officers after he was allegedly seen smoking meth in the Roberts Commons Parking Ramp downtown.
Officers arrested the man near the 200 block of Roberts Street North where the assault happened. KVRR news reporter Alex Bertsch captured the assault on video. It has been viewed over six million times online.
The man, 37-year-old Joseph Manitowabi, is charged with three counts of assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, preventing arrest, and refusal to halt.
Many on social media are asking questions like what kind of training the officers were given and why they didn’t use a taser.
A written statement by one of the officers says he did draw his taser on Manitowabi.
Other commenters wonder how things would have ended if Manitowabi was a different race.
Manitowabi has a criminal history that includes disorderly conduct, fighting, and possession of marijuana. He is being held in the Cass County Jail until his court hearing. His bail is set at $25,000.
The video has been shared on numerous social media sites and websites, including TMZ.
