What is it about Donald Trump and his followers’ hatred of international students? Why don’t they see them for what they are? Some of the brightest students in the world, choosing to continue their studies in America. They want to go to some of the most prestigious institutions in the world to get their degree, and we get the opportunity to keep them in our country.
I don’t have anyone in my life that fits that category, but that really doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is what they can do for our country and keep our nation strong. Strong in every area that need be.
I have a hard time imagining a scenario where I wouldn’t feel the same way about an exchange student studying plumbing, electrical technology, or nursing. Anyone that wouldn’t appreciate a person here legally doing the work we need done is short-sighted. We need all of those students.
So where do we go from here? Well, there is one thing we can do. We do exactly what Harvard did and tell Donald Trump to shove it. Whatever his motivation is, he’s wrong. He’s wrong because some of the world’s highest intellects are doing for us what we’re doing for them. They’re giving us a chance. A chance to remain the greatest power in the world.
I don’t know Trump’s motivation for picking this fight. Many say it’s because his son didn’t get into Harvard, and others say it’s jealousy. I don’t know, and frankly, I don’t give a damn.
I just hope they continue to call this their home.
