FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – The Fergus Falls Fire Department issued a warning to parents about a TikTok challenge after a student stuck part of a scissors into a laptop computer at Kennedy Secondary School.
The “Chromebook Challenge” is a viral video trend where students stick objects into their laptops to cause the computer to smoke or spark.
Fergus Falls Fire Chief Ryan Muchow says a middle school student pushed a blade from a pair of scissors into one of the ports on their laptop. The laptop was taken out of the building shortly after it began smoking, which helped contain the smoke to the one classroom. Students evacuated and the fire department helped ventilate the room.
Muchow is encouraging parents to speak with their children about the consequences and dangers of viral trends.
Police say criminal damage to property charges against the student are possible.
