FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police have identified a suspect in the pointing of a laser at a National Guard helicopter late last month.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) turned the investigation over to police. Police Captain Bill Ahlfeldt said it is believed a juvenile pointed a green laser at a UH-72 Lakota helicopter near Hector International Airport. Ahlfeldt said the case file has been sent to the Cass County State’s Attorneys office. Police will not release additional information citing the pending prosecution and the age of the suspect.
It happened at about 9 p.m. on April 17. The North Dakota Army National Guard helicopter landed safely. The FAA turned the investigation over to police.
Last year, pilots across the country reported nearly 13,000 laser strikes.
