BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – Governor Kelly Armstrong has signed a bill raising the 75 mph speed limit on the interstates to 80.
The legislation also raises fines for speeding. Armstrong says he believes that the speed limit increase strikes a reasonable balance with neighboring states and raising fines should act as a deterrent to speeding.
The speed limit on interstates in South Dakota and Montana is already 80 mph while the speed limit on non-metro freeways in Minnesota is 70.
The speed limit on North Dakota interstates went to 75 in 2003.
