ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The city of St. Paul and Minnesota Wild are scaling back their plans for a revamp of Xcel Energy Center reducing the proposal by more than 1/3 after a muted response from legislators to a request for state funding.
In a statement Thursday, the city said that the new proposal for renovations has a budget of $488 million, down from the $769 million proposed in March. The city and team are drastically reducing their request for state funding, down from the $394.6 million suggested in March to just $50 million in the new proposal.
The rest of the project would be funded with $200 million from the city of St. Paul and local partners, while the Wild and owner Craig Leipold would cover the remaining $238 million, plus any cost overruns.
