FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police are reporting a decrease in crime across all major categories in 2024 compared to 2023 despite a rise in calls last year.
While cases of murder, rape, and robbery were up, overall crime against people was down in 2024. There were six murders compared to two the year before. Cases of rape were up 37% and robberies were up 5%. Arson, burglaries, and vehicle thefts were all down while shoplifting was up.
Chief Dave Zibolski says implementation of technology has been a big part of the department’s strategic plan.
One piece of technology is the real-time crime center which is monitored by sworn and civilian staff who can send officers to a location where a crime is being committed.
“This technology has solved homicides, robberies, missing persons, a whole plethora of things,” Zibolski says. “When we’ve utilized it for special events, we have stepped in front of many incidents that would have otherwise erupted into some criminal activity, a fight, assault, etc. It’s just been really successful and we’re going to continue to build that out, but there’s a very significant impact for our community from a safety perspective.”
Zibolski presented the report to the city commission.
