SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KFGO) – The Division of Criminal Investigation says officers were justified when they used deadly force earlier this month.
Samir Albaidhani was shot by police April 1. He was stopped by Sioux Falls Police while driving a stolen car. He fired at officers, hitting one. He then fled south on I-29 and crashed near Beresford. After crashing, he fired several shots at state troopers. One officer struck Albaidhani with his squad as he tried to run. Another officer shot Albaidhani in the arm.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says both uses of deadly force were justified. Albaidhani tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis. He’s charged with four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, four counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer, and one count each of Commission of a Felony While Armed with a Firearm, Aggravated Eluding, and Resisting Arrest.
