MOORHEAD (KFGO-KVRR) โ The Clay County Commission has invited representatives from the White Earth Nation to attend a meeting next week to discuss plans for the tribeโs recent land purchase near Moorhead.
The tribe recently bought about 280 acres near the junction of I-94 and State Highway 336.
Tribal officials have submitted a letter that supports adding the land to the tribeโs gaming compact.
The letter says casino would be an economic benefit to Moorhead and the region.
In March, the tribe said any speculation regarding specific projects, including gaming facilities, is premature.
The letter says commissioners โare authorized to provide this letter of support to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and other federal and state agencies in connection with White Earth Nationโs fee to trust application.โ
โWe have respectfully requested that representatives from the White Earth Tribal Nation attend an upcoming Clay County Board of Commissioners meeting on April 22nd,โ County Administrator Stephen Larson said.
Larson says the commission could gain a better understanding of the strategic vision for the property and better understand the impacts of placing the land in a trust prior to taking formal action on the letter of support.
