VANCOUVER, British Columbia (KFGO/AP) โ The Minnesota Wild have faced adversity all season long. Whether itโs been injuries to star players like Kirill Kaprisov, or playing in a tough western conference, a lot has been standing in the way of the Wild. But they have kept on fighting all season long up to this point.
Last night, Minnesota played in Vancouver to take on the Canucks. The Wild would fall behind 2-0 going into the 3rd period, but they werenโt leaving Vancouver without a fight. 22 seconds into the 3rd period, Brock Faber of Minnesota scored a goal to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Later in the period, with 6:46 remaining, Marcus Foligno would tie the game at 2 with a goal of his own. The game would eventually go to overtime. After a terrific pass from Kirill Kaprisov, Mats Zuccarello would put home the game winning goal for the Wild in OT.
Currently in the Western Conference, Minnesota, St. Louis, and Calgary are the 3 teams fighting for the 2 playoff spots remaining. Minnesota has 95 points, St. Louis has 94, and Calgary has 90. Minnesota can clinch as early as tonight. If Calgary loses to San Jose in any fashion,(Regulation or Overtime), Minnesota clinches a playoff spot. However, if this scenario doesnโt happen tonight, Minnesota will have to get a win vs Anaheim, and St. Louis has to lose in any fashion to Utah on Tuesday. This coming Tuesday, is the final day of the NHL regular season.
