ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released the name of a police officer who shot a man in the leg at the conclusion of lengthy, multi-county pursuit in the northern Red River Valley Monday morning.
Crookston Police Officer Sean Murphy is on standard critical incident leave. He’s been in law enforcement for seven years. The BCA is investigating Murphy’s use of force and will turn its findings over to the Polk County Attorney’s Office. An Oklahoma man was arrested south of Crookston.
U.S. Border Patrol agents initiated the chase after finding that 34-year-old Caleb Coffey had a handgun at the Pembina Port of Entry in North Dakota.
Speeds during the chase reached 120 miles-an-hour. Two handguns were recovered. One was in the car driven by Coffey and the second was in a holster that Coffey was wearing when he was arrested.
He was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks before he was transferred to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.
