BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO/KVRR) โ North Dakota House Appropriation members got a chance to ask questions regarding a bill to provide funding for upgrades to Fargo National Cemetery.
Rep. Austin Schauer (R-West Fargo), and Senator Scott Meyer (R-Grand Forks) were among those who introduced the bill and were at Mondayโs meeting to answer questions.
HB 2265 provides a one-time credit of $3 million by the Bank of North Dakota to be accessed by the U.S. Department of Veteranโs Affairs.
The money will go to building a chapel, parking lot, and related infrastructure.
Rep. Schauer says the improvements are needed due to our areaโs extreme temperatures and the age of many attending funerals at the cemetery.
โThis has to be done right, OK?โ Schauer said. โWe canโt have 90-year-old widows out there freezing to death. And these honor guys (โฆ) their not exactly spring chickens. So we have to do this right.โ
The committee suggested an amendment brought by the Bank of North Dakota to change wording on who can request a deficiency appropriation, but did not hold a vote for amending the bill.
