FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – Shoppers have been waiting for months for the opening of Von Maur in West Acres Shopping Center. Saturday, the wait was over.
“Honestly, it’s the best turnout I’ve seen in maybe my whole career,” said Von Maur CEO Jim von Maur.
That’s saying a lot for a department store chain that was founded in 1872 and has 38 other locations across the United States.
“This is a huge investment by the von Maur family, and when you see them doing that in our community, that speaks volumes,” said Mayor Tim Mahoney.
von Maur agreed, saying he was enthused about the economic opportunity in the Fargo area.
“We’ve seen the growth that’s been happening, and all the new, exciting industry that’s been happening,” he explained. “We’ve seen that it’s a growing, dynamic community – and we wanted to be a part of it.”
Shoppers enjoyed live music, free prizes, and shopping.
The location had been vacant since Herbergers went out of business in 2018.
