FARGO (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a new scam that has emerged in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Friday, the sheriff’s office was told about an incident where a person was contacted by someone claiming to be a deputy and was told a family member in jail qualified for an ankle bracelet monitoring program. The scammer requested an electronic payment before participation in the program.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office does offer ankle bracelet monitoring and 24/7 monitoring programs, but payments are only accepted as in-person cash transactions at the jail. Deputy’s do not ask for payment over the phone.
