ST. PAUL, Minn. โ A Minnesota House bill looks to ban the sale of cats and dogs at pet stores.
Democratic Rep. Matt Norris of Blaine says it offers a compromise by grandfathering in the stores that still engage in the practice, as long as they are more transparent about the origin of their animals for sale.
Speaking to a House committee, Megan Helling says she bought a yellow lab from a pet store and endured a lifetime of medical challenges. Michael Swanson owns Four Paws and a Tail pet store and says the bill would turn his business into an unmovable asset.
The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.
