FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) โ The Otter Tail County Sheriffโs Office says no one will be charged in a shooting late last year where a 3-year-old boy died near Wadena, Minnesota.
The boy died of a self-inflicted, single-gunshot wound to the head. The sheriffโs office says after an extensive investigation, it was determined that the home had childproof safety measures in place, including secured doors and cabinets. The shooting happened in a room where the child was not supposed to be without supervision. A childproof door mechanism was left partially ajar for a brief amount of time, allowing the boy to enter the room. The shooting happened on December 29.
The sheriffโs office says the death was a tragic incident and it continues to encourage all gun owners to follow safe practices for firearms safety and store guns securely and out of the reach of children at all times.
