FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO/Daily Journal Media) – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was mobilized on Mar. 21 after a man with a 9mm handgun made multiple threats.
Donavan Trayon Bolden, 33, of Brainerd has been charged in Otter Tail County District court with felony threats of violence and misdemeanor domestic assault.
Court charging documents say Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call from a victim in rural Fergus Falls that Bolden had a gun and had punched a television and had been shooting the 9mm handgun all day and threatened to shoot the victim in the face.
A Sheriff’s Office deputy met with the victim at a staging area and stated that they and Bolden had earlier gone to a large discount store on the 3300 block of West State Highway 210 in Fergus Falls to try and cash a check from work which was denied. It was at this point that court records say that Bolden had become upset and stated that he was “done being the nice guy.” He also stated that someone was going to get shot in the face.
Bolden later returned to the house intoxicated with 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Court documents say that the victim confronted Bolden about his behavior, which eventually escalated into an altercation in which resulted in the victim being thrown down on a couch
Charging documents state that at this point, Bolden started destroying multiple items in the house including a TV and stated that he would shoot “anybody else that challenged him.”
The victim confirmed to a 911 dispatcher that there were multiple other firearms in the residence. Law enforcement responded with a SWAT team and was able to get Bolden to exit the residence without further incident.
Court records say that in a search of the residence, law enforcement located the firearms. The 9mm was located in a crawlspace in the residence.
When later questioned by law enforcement, Bolden stated that the incident started when the check he received from his job turned out to be a direct deposit slip and not a check. He became upset when he was unable to get help in opening up a bank account to get access to the funds. Later in the conversation, Bolden was asked why he hid the gun and responded that he knew that he was not supposed to be around guns and knew that the victim had told law enforcement he had a gun. The defendant stated this prompted him to hide it in the crawlspace.
