MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) – Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is one of many Democratic Attorneys General who are fighting legal battles against early actions of the Trump administration, and was in Moorhead over the weekend to talk about it.
Ellison has been on a tour of sorts, holding town hall meetings across the state to address questions and concerns.
Part of the goal is to clarify his motivations for filing these lawsuits against Trump’s executive orders.
“We’re talking about rule of law, obeying the rule of law, and how the legal system is supposed to work,” Ellison explained. “And some of the executive orders break the law.”
Minnesota State Senator Rob Kupec helped facilitate the Moorhead event. He says it’s great to have Ellison get face time with the people in his region.
“It is really important, I think, for people to get out of St. Paul,” Kupec said, “and get to the rest of the state and hear what we have to say.”
Ellison feels the town hall was productive, and he believes it left people more energized and optimistic for the future than when they walked in.
“A lot of people feel better knowing that their community is working together and that their state government cares about what they’re going through,” Ellison said.
