University of Minnesota Extension study finds ethanol contributed $2.1B to Economy

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – An annual report by University of Minnesota Extension shows the state’s ethanol industry is big business. 

Brian Werner of the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association says the study showed that the industry statewide provided a contribution of over two billion dollars to the state’s gross domestic product. That was based on 1.4 billion gallons of ethanol that was produced in 2024. 

Werner says ethanol generated $1.2 billion in income for Minnesota residents and paid $157 million in state and local taxes last year. About 18,400 jobs are based on ethanol in the state.
