BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KFGO) โ A northern Minnesota lawmaker has been arrested for suspicion of solicitation of a minor.
Republican Sen. Justin Eichorn of Grand Rapids by arrested Monday by Bloomington Police.
Police Chief Booker Hodges says Eichorn, 40, was arrested as part of a sting investigation. Hodges says Eichorn was communicating with a detective who was posing as 16-year-old girl. He was arrested in his pickup near a proposed meeting place. He was taken to the Hennepin County Jail.
Eichorn serves a district that covers parts of Itasca, Crow Wing and Cass Counties.
Eichorn was one of five Republicans who introduced a bill to classify โTrump derangement syndromeโ as a recognized mental illness in Minnesota. The legislation was quickly criticized by Democrats and some mental health advocates.
In a statement Tuesday afternoon, two leading Republicans called for Eichorn to resign from the legislature.
Speaker Lisa Demuth of Cold Spring and Leader Harry Niska of Ramsey said โgiven the seriousness of the charges, Senator Eichorn should resign. While he is entitled to due process, we must hold legislators to a higher standard.โ
