HALLOCK, Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) — The family of a man who was killed in Hallock has identified him as 43-year-old Justin Esparza.
The Kittson County Attorney’s Office says Esparza was shot to death Thursday. Jordan Hanson, 23, of Kennedy was arrested shortly after the shooting, and has been charged with Esparza’s murder.
According to court documents, Hanson’s mother called the sheriff’s office around 1:30 p.m. Thursday to report that her daughter said she shot a man in the head. A witness told officers he was at the house smoking meth with Esparza and Hanson, and that he saw Hanson shoot Esparza.
A handgun was found near the body, and a casing was on the floor next to the couch.
Hanson’s bail was set at $200,000 cash with no conditions, or $2 million non-cash bond with no conditions. Minnesota BCA is assisting with the investigation.
Esparza’s family has started a GoFundMe account to bring his body back to St. Paul. A link to that account can be found here.
