(Reuters) -Merck said on Tuesday it has opened a $1-billion facility at its North Carolina site, as the drugmaker seeks to boost its U.S. manufacturing in the face of President Donald Trumpโs tariff threats.
Drugmakers have been exploring the possibility of government-granted exemptions for domestically manufactured medicines since Trump has threatened to impose 25% tariff on pharmaceutical imports.
Eli Lilly said last month it plans to invest at least $27 billion to build four new manufacturing plants in the U.S.
