FARGO (KFGO) – The longtime head of Visit Fargo-Moorhead is retiring.
Charley Johnson says he will retire as president and chief executive officer of what was called the FM Convention and Visitors Bureau in August.
A national search will be launched to name a replacement for Johnson. He was hired 13 years ago.
Prior to that, Johnson spent decades in radio and television as a news reporter, anchor and a television station general manager. He began his broadcasting career in his hometown of Hastings, Minnesota in 1967. He also worked for radio stations in Grand Forks and Moorhead early in his career.
Johnson says he hopes to remain part of the committee that will review proposals for a new convention-conference center in Fargo. Voters approved an increase in the city lodging tax last November to pay for the center. The tax will be in effect for 25 years.
