Johnnie Gaking (Ward County Jail)
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder for a shooting last Tuesday on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation south of Devils Lake.
Johnnie Gaking is charged with shooting and killing his sister, Tiana Walking Eagle, her 3-year-old daughter, Lokia, and wounding his mother.
The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court, says Gaking’s mother, who was shot in the head, told a first responder that her son shot her. Gaking told law enforcement initially that he was not responsible for the shootings, claiming that it was men in ski masks who had been stalking him. The complaint says he later said the men in the ski masks make him kill the family members.
Gaking was arrested after he showed up at a relative’s home with what were believed to be self-inflicted stab wounds.
