Chloe Nord (Cass Co. jail)
MOORHEAD (KFGO) โ A former Clay County correctional officer charged with criminal sexual conduct is accused of having a sexual relationship with an inmate while working at the jail.
According to prosecutors, 23-year-old Chloe Nord of Fargo became romantically involved with the inmate between November of last year and her last day of work in January.
Nord is accused of exchanging messages with the inmate, including notes and a letter.
The inmate told investigators the two were in a relationship that they planned to continue after he was out of prison. The inmate says on two occasions, Nord touched his penis through his pants while passing toilet paper into his cell.
Nord denied physical contact happened, but admitted she was communicating with the inmate. She says she โfell under his spell.โ
Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting said he takes matters of misconduct seriously and holds department staff accountable when appropriate.
โClay County became aware of a potential claim of misconduct after Ms. Nord was no longer employed with the correctional facility. Upon learning of the allegations, I immediately asked for an investigation to be launched. Correctional facility personnel also notified state licensing officials. After a thorough review of the investigative findings, the Clay County Attorneyโs Office determined that charges were warranted,โ Empting said.
Nord, who was briefly employed as an officer with Grand Forks Police after her time with Clay County, is charged with two felony counts and faces up to 10 years in prison for each.
Nord lives in Fargo and has been booked into the Cass County jail.
