ST. PAUL, Minn. – New numbers indicate sheriffs are issuing fewer handgun permits in Minnesota.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s annual report shows just over 57,000 gun permits were issued in 2024, which is about 8,000 less than two years ago. The total number of valid permits in Minnesota topped 408,000.
Permit holders committed more than 5,300 crimes last year and 54% were driving while intoxicated or other traffic offenses. Just under 3% were incidents where firearms were used in furtherance of a crime.
