ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO WCCO) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says he’s open to running for President in 2028. He made the comments to editor David Remnick on the New Yorker Radio Hour podcast. The comments come just months after Walz ran as Kamala Harris’ choice for Vice President in the 2024 election, lost to President Donald Trump.
“I guess what I’m asking you is, would you run for president,” asked Remnick.
“Well, I had a friend tell me, ‘never turned down a job you haven’t been offered.’ If I think I could offer something or if there’s there’s a piece there that would do it, I would certainly consider that,” Walz replied. “I’m also, though, not arrogant enough to believe – there’s a lot of people that can do this and by the time we get to 2028, what that skill set to do it looks like, we need to coalesce behind that person.”
Walz says if it turns out he’s the person with the right skill set, he’ll run, telling Remnick he’ll do whatever it takes if it means not having to put up with the current state of affairs in Washington.
“If it would be, that I have the skill set? I’ll do it,” Walz said. “If I do get asked, but if it means that we don’t have to put up with what we’re doing? I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Walz also mentioned former running mate Kamala Harris, telling Remnick they’ve spoken only a couple of times since losing the 2024 election.
