(Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday he was concerned about the “arbitrary detention” and the health of French-Algerian author Boualem Sansal in Algeria.
In a speech in Porto, Portugal, he said that Sansal’s detention was one of the issues that needs to be settled in order to fully restore confidence between France and Algeria.
He also said that the French government is right to review immigration agreements between the two countries over Algeria’s refusal to accept Algerians deported from France.
