(Reuters) โ Pfizer said on Monday former head of the US Food and Drug Administrationโs drug center, Patrizia Cavazzoni, will join the drugmaker as chief medical officer.
In her new role, Cavazzoni will lead regulatory, pharmacovigilance, among other medical functions at Pfizer.
She will succeed Aida Habtezion, who will depart the company to pursue other opportunities.
Cavazzoni has previously worked at Pfizer and headed clinical sciences and development operations across multiple senior roles.
She was most recently the director at the FDAโs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, where she ensured the availability of medicines and led the regulatory and policy decisions on prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
She stepped down from her role in January and was among the top FDA officials who left the agency ahead of the new administration under Donald Trump.
