
MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) — Two local officers are finalists in the search for Moorhead’s next police chief.
Moorhead Patrol Lt. John Laddie Bata, Minneapolis Police Capt. Erin Dietz, Fargo Police Capt. Chris Helmick and Aurora, Colorado Police Commander Matthew Brukbacher are the four being considered. On-site interviews are scheduled for next week.
Bata has 24 years of law enforcement and military experience. He has served in the U.S. Army, Minnesota National Guard, Owatonna, and Moorhead.
Dietz is a Captain of the Support Services Division of the Metro Transit Police Department in Minneapolis. She also has military experience in the North Dakota Air National Guard. She has served as a detention officer in Burleigh County, North Dakota and as an officer in the Bismarck Police Department.
Helmick has been with the Fargo Police Department since 2001. He has experience in the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Neighborhood Services Division, and Professional Standards Division. Helmick is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Brukbacher is a Commander leading the Special Operations Bureau with the City of Aurora, Colorado Police Department. He’s been with the department since 2000 where he’s served as a Patrol and Special Assignment Sergeant, Emergency Response Team Deputy- Commander, Emergency Response Team Special Operations Lieutenant and a District Commander.
The next chief is expected to be named in March.
Current Chief Shannon Monroe is retiring after thirty years of service to Moorhead.
