
PIERRE, S.D. (KFGO) – Reported crime in South Dakota is up 1.21% according to the state’s 2024 crime report.
Violent crime reports are up 2.53%.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says there were 67,959 reported crimes, compared to 67,145 in 2023.
The state saw 31 homicides, 6,751 drug offenses, 5,493 DUIs, and 1,777 burglaries.
Jackley says 486 South Dakota law enforcement officers were killed or assaulted last year. That includes Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok who was struck and killed by a suspect’s vehicle during a police chase.
