US Attorney Mac Schneider (Paul Jurgens/KFGO)
FARGO (KFGO) โ North Dakota U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider has announced his resignation.
In a social media post, Schneider wrote, โI submitted my resignation to the President and Attorney General [Sunday] morning. Iโm grateful to the point of near disbelief that I got to work alongside the officeโs exceptional attorneys and dedicated staff as we played our part in meeting DOJโs mission of upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights. I will be cheering on my successors, former colleagues, and their law enforcement partners as they continue on with the officeโs important work.โ
Schneider, a Democrat, has served in the position since being appointed by President Biden in 2022.
Schneider served in the North Dakota Senate from a Grand Forks district for a number of years before he was defeated. In 2018, he was the Democratic candidate for North Dakotaโs U.S. House seat.
Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer are recommending that President Donald Trump nominate Nick Chase to serve as U.S. Attorney for North Dakota. Chase is a judge for North Dakotaโs East Central Judicial District. Before that, he served for 20 years in the U.S. Attorneyโs Office, including as acting U.S. Attorney.
