MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A large police presence in north Moorhead Friday evening was prompted by a false report that led police to believe there had been an incident with multiple victims.
A man called Red River Regional Dispatch around 4 p.m. Police responded quickly, and set up a perimeter around the home in the 2600 block of 4th Ave N.
“Initially, it sounded like there were multiple victims and our officers were setting up a perimeter and ensuring that the neighborhood was going to be safe from this incident,” Moorhead Police Capt. Deric Hanson said Friday. “Prior to possibly activating [the] Red River Regional SWAT team further information [revealed] this was a false call and [we] believe this was an adult male who was having a mental health crisis.”
Swenson says a shelter in place was not issued because the incident ended before the notification could have been sent out. Police are continuing to investigate.
Moorhead Police, Dilworth Police, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Moorhead Fire all responded.
