CENTER, N.D. (KFGO) โ Game and Fish is monitoring a possible outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in western North Dakota.
The department says Canada geese carcasses were found near open water along the Missouri River and Nelson Lake in Oliver County. Tests suggest avian influenza is the likely cause of death.
The department says cases of avian influenza are commonly detected in the state as birds migrate through.
Game and Fish says the risk of humans and pets getting sick is low, but direct contact with sick or dead birds should be limited.
Dead or sick birds found in North Dakota should be reported on the stateโs Game and Fish website.
