ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Minnesota House Republicans have filed their own lawsuit with the Minnesota Supreme Court. In the latest twist in their dispute with Democrats, Republican Leader Harry Niska says the GOP filed the lawsuit against Secretary of Steve Steve Simon for not allowing motions to be filed on the House floor.
“Clearly we have the power under the constitution to adjourn from day to day and he’s not even letting us set that time for adjournment through a motion from the body. He’s doing it unilaterally from the rostrum,” Niska said. “That is unconstitutional.”
When asked, Niska said he believes Simon’s actions are politically motivated. The Republicans are also asking that Democrats pay fines for not showing up for work. No response from House Democrats or Secretary Simon as this point.
