Dustin and Katie Wiese of Cass County were named national runners-up for the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Achievement Award, which was announced at the closing general session of the AFBF Annual Convention in San Antonio.
โWe are honored to receive this award,โ said Dustin and Katie. โWe work hard every day to continue our familyโs ranching legacy, and itโs humbling to be recognized among our peers from across the country.โ
As runners-up, they will receive a $25,000 credit toward a new Case IH piece of equipment.
Dustin and Katie operate a fourth-generation ranch, home to one of the largest registered Angus herds in the state. Their ranch also hosts the longest-running production sale in Minnesota, which will celebrate its 50th year in 2025. In addition to their Angus herd, they produce hay, corn, sorghum, and oats.
The couple is highly involved in Farm Bureau activities. Dustin serves as the president of the Cass County Farm Bureau, and both have been active on the state YF&R Committee, with Katie chairing the committee in 2023. In December, they were named to the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Committee, where they will begin their two-year term at the AFBF Fusion Conference in Denver.
Beyond Farm Bureau, Dustin has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Advisory Committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers and holds leadership roles with the Minnesota Angus Association and the Minnesota State Cattlemenโs Association. Katie is also involved with the Minnesota Cattlewomen.
โItโs exciting to see this award go to such a deserving couple,โ said Minnesota Farm Bureau President Dan Glessing. โTheir recognition on the national stage is a testament to the strength of the next generation of agriculture in our state.โ
The Achievement Award recognizes excellence in production farming and leadership. Contestants are judged on the growth and financial progress of their farming operations, their leadership within Farm Bureau, and their leadership outside of Farm Bureau.
