GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The risk for moderate or higher spring flooding for the Red River and Devils Lake Basins in the first outlook is low and running below long-term historical averages.
National Weather Service in Grand Forks says precipitation last November saturated soils and elevated river levels before freeze-up.
But snowfall has been below normal this winter except near the international border.
Below-normal temperatures are expected to continue into spring and may lead to delayed snowmelt.
Late winter and spring precipitation and the thaw cycle will be the most important spring flood risk factors.
The next outlooks will be released in mid and late February.
