MOORETON, N.D. (KFGO) – An investigation is underway after a burglary at a bar and grill in Mooreton early Wednesday morning.
Antelope Creek Bar and Grill owner Dan Beyer says the bar was closed and locked up around 12:30 a.m., and later in the morning, a kitchen staff member called and alerted him about the break-in. He says a camera caught footage of the burglary that happened around 1:30 a.m.
“Somebody broke in through our liquor room door, pried the door open, and came through, started knocking down all the cameras,” Beyer says. “They missed one camera that caught a lot of good footage. They were in here for about 30 to 35 minutes. They cut open the front of the ATM with a cutoff wheel of some type, pulled the money out, and then left.”
Beyer does not want to say how much money was taken from the ATM, but says it was a significant amount.
Damage to the building includes the ATM, the liquor door, security cameras, and phone lines that were cut during the break-in.
Beyer doesn’t know who is responsible for the burglary, but says whoever it is was efficient. Whoever broke in ripped signs off the walls to cover up windows while they were inside.
“[I have] no idea whether they’re local or not,” Beyer says. “One guy taller and one guy shorter. The shorter guy looks like he’s probably 5’ 3” or 5’ 4” based upon his height compared to the doorframe.”
Beyer is urging other businesses in the area to keep a lookout. He says he’s been looking through footage to see if anyone who matches the descriptions has been in the bar, but hasn’t found anything yet.
“We’re a small-town bar that has a bunch of great people that come out here all the time,” Beyer says. “It’s very rare that we get anybody that’s suspicious. This type of thing doesn’t happen around here.”
Antelope Creek Bar and Grill opened about an hour late Wednesday after staff cleaned up. He says Red River Communications showed up immediately to fix the phone lines.
There is no fundraiser planned for the bar and grill.
Beyer has owned the bar and grill for two and a half years. His brother owned the business before that.
