MAHNOMEN, Minn. (KFGO) – A northern Minnesota man is in jail and facing assault charges after investigators say he shook his three-month-old son.
The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s office says the baby was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center on Dec. 23 because he was not breathing. Medical staff told deputies the baby suffered from shaken baby syndrome.
An investigation by the county and state led to an arrest Wednesday of 35-year-old Derek Croud of Naytahwaush.
The baby is currently hospitalized and in stable condition, but the Sheriff’s Office says the long-term effects of the assault are not known.
