BURLEIGH COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) – A driver was seriously injured in a crash following a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement on I-94 near New Salem, North Dakota Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began when Burleigh County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the woman parked at the Bismarck Impound Lot. She fled when they told her she was driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Deputies pursued the car onto I-94 and continued westbound into Morton County where Highway Patrol troopers took control. The driver was suspected of being impaired as she was swerving between lanes and speeds ranging from 60 to 100 miles per hour.
She made a U-turn in the median and then began traveling east toward Bismarck. She lost control after striking spike strips outside of New Salem. Her vehicle then went into the median, striking multiple crash cushion barrels and hitting a concrete bridge support.
She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and placed under arrest on multiple charges, including DUI and fleeing a police officer.
