YANKTON, S.D. (KFGO) – A Yankton man is charged with murder and manslaughter after his girlfriend’s decapitated body was found in a Yankton apartment Thursday.
The body of 41-year-old Heather Bodden was found by her friends after one of the friends got a message from Bodden saying her boyfriend threatened to kill her. The women went to Bodden’s apartment where they found the headless body of a woman and called police.
Responding officers found one garbage bag with Bodden’s head inside and another bag with bloody clothes belonging to Bodden’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Craig Nichols. Investigators checked surveillance video that showed Nichols entering and exiting the apartment building multiple times early Thursday morning.
When officers went to Nichols’ apartment, he barricaded himself inside. Nichols was eventually taken into custody. He’s being held on a half-million dollar cash-only bond.
