Spencer Moen (Cass Co. Jail)
FARGO (KFGO KVRR) – A West Fargo man who was found guilty of beating his wife to death has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Spencer Moen, 32, was convicted of murder by a jury in the August 2023 death of his wife, 30-year-old Sonja Moen. Members of Sonja Moen’s family gave emotional statements on how her death has affected them and the Moen’s three children at the sentencing hearing Monday afternoon. Each recommended the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
Spencer Moen wiped away tears while listening to the family’s statements during the hearing. His attorney recommended a sentence of 20 years.
Cass County District Court Judge Nicholas Chase said Moen had multiple opportunities to end his assault or to seek help for his wife while she was dying in a bathtub in their home.
